Help / advice anyone please regarding EON
Hi all,
Im new to the site so appologys if this is in the wrong place.
About 3 years ago i was with Eon for my gas and electric and being a singe parent i got myself into a bit of debt with them.I rung them and asked if i could have prepayment meters installed so i could pay back what i owed, and so i couldnt get myself in that situation again...They agreed to this and the meters were installed and they had it all set up to take so much money from me until my debt was paid back.
I have since changed to BG for both gas and electric (still with pre payment meters) but im now getting letters from a debt company called "past due credit" saying that i owe nearly £800 to Eon.
I really dont understand how this can be as before i changed suppliers i rung Eon to double check that everything owed was paid and i was told it had been.
Im now scared to death that im going to have baliffs or such like knocking on my door demanding money from me and scaring my children ( 1 of which is terminally ill).
I have rung this past due credit comapny and they say that i have no choice but to pay it,at the moment im refusing to do so because as far as im concerned i owe nothing to Eon.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi rixi97,
The first thing to do is to contact E.ON asap to find out what has happened, the debt collection company won't have details of the account just a debt to collect.
If you have a bit of info ready it may help a bit, do you know how much debt was added to your meter, when it was added, how much were you paying towards the debt each week.
You can use the email address in my profile page if you would like me to help.
Just another thought, did you have both the meters changed to PP could it be that you have paid off the debt for one of the fuels but not the other?

It's strange that Eon would let you go if you owed such a debt. Perhaps it's an old debt "sold" to a debt agency as Helena says. If you paid up or set an arrangement with the Supplier, they then have to recall it or the agency won't know. Perhaps it's something like that?:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0

Agree with Terrylw1, if an account has a debt E.ON would normally object to the customer changing to a new supplier, until the debt had been cleared.

Thank you for your replies.
I dont have any details at all anymore i have been with Bg now for over 3 years so i have nothing from when i was with Eon.....I did have both gas and electric changed over to PP but i only owed for electricity which was paid off. im just so angry and upset right now as i know it was all paid off and i was told this over the phone when i rung Eon to double check.
Would i be able to ring Eon even though i dont have any details at all anymore?.0 -
yes they will still have the details will ask for house no and post code to get acc up. Other thing to check is readings that the eojn acc was closed to, if these were (over) estimated could skew a balance owing. as Helena adv best calling Eon to find out exactly what the situation is0

Hi rixi97,
Yes you can contact E.ON, all you need is the post code and house number, they can find your account from there.
I would definitely suggest contacting them, as you need to establish how this debt has come about.
As I have said, I will be happy to look in to this for you if you want to use the email address in my profile page.
