Hi all.

I'm getting quotes in to replace the old "crittall" type windows in my bungalow with UPVC double glazed ones with white 'Georgian style bars'.

There are 7 windows in total, one of those is a bay window. Here are the measurements (W X H):

Front bed:
1570 X 1315

Lounge Bay Window:
530 - 2040 - 530 X 1315 (H) - 530 is the width of both side windows in the Bay.

Lounge (small):
590 X 730 (fixed, non-opening).

Bathroom:
1080 X 1025

Dining room:
1570 X 1020

Kitchen:
1050 x 1295

Rear bed:
2090 X 1310

I've had two quotes so far. One of them from a local company who we have used before and they seem very good. The quote was £4389 inc VAT & fitting.

I got another quote today from a larger company (BriteLite) and they've quoted me £6100inc VAT & fitting, but that does include a rear door with a "combination frame" (the kitchen window currently shares the same timber frame as the rear door, so they'd have to be replaced at the same time).

I wasn't there when the local company quoted so I don't actually know much about the specification of their windows (IE, energy ratings, etc). However, we have their windows fitted in my parents house and they seem very good - my Dad has been using the company for over 30 years so we know they are very reliable and to be trusted.
I should also add that we plan to sell the Bungalow within the next couple of years so it doesn't make any sense for us to spend more on fancy options, etc (except the Georgian bars which suite the property).

What would you say is a fair quote for the 7 windows and how much do you think a new PVC rear door and PVC front door should cost, bearing in mind that the rear door would have to be replaced at the same time as the kitchen window as they share the same frame.

Any help would be appreciated.
