Like all places i would say their is good and bad areas everyone.
Postern Close £200
Escrick Street £240
Moss Street £260
Lavender House £325
But dont want to me worrying about leaving my car outside lol
Thanks
Claire

We've always stayed in the Queens hotel right on the river, but parking is limited and think you pay about £12 per day for it, not sure because we usually take the train but the hotel is lovely, normally pay about £80 per room per night0

Parking in York is at a premium and it isn't cheap. It might be an idea to look for accommodation close to the racecourse (the flat racing season has ended so you won't have to worry about it being busy). It will largely be street parking but you are in a relatively safe part of the city. Looking at your options, Moss Street and Lavender House would be in the general vicinity.
There is a hotel on the main road from the racecourse to the city centre (think it's called the Elmbank) that is very highly rated. It's approx a 15 min walk into the city centre.
One thing I would say, and don't let this put you off visiting a great city, is be wary of staying close to the river when the weather is lousy. York is notorious for flooding!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I've stayed in an apartment in or close to Postern Close (possibly Cherrry Street ?) a few years back - it's well located for the city centre (a short walk away) and there were a couple of nice takeaways in Bishopthorpe Road. The apartment we rented had secure underground parking for the apartment block - I can't recall there being much on street parking around.0

Postern Close is a group of modern flats & houses. Although very close to the river I think it should be OK for not flooding and should be fairly quiet / safe. Very close to the city centre. Check whether there is a guaranteed parking spot & permits.
Escrick Street is the other side of the river. Combination of some flats / houses fronting onto the street and some in a recessed courtyard. Personally I wouldn't choose this one, it isn't as quiet and doesn't feel quite as safe (though it's all pretty safe).
Moss Street is a no-through street which has bollards separating it the main road into York from the south, and has non-forecourted terraces on it. It also has a KFC at the main road end. The parking is on-street residents' permit but there are also double yellows on the street.
I think the location could be quite noisy, and you might struggle to get your car parked, but it's safe enough.
Lavender House is, I think, 189 Bishopthorpe Road if my googling is correct. The parking is on the main road outside the house. There's no double yellow lines but people park on the pavement on both sides of the street as buses need to get through. I've never seen cars being struck but again it's a fairly busy road. Good safe area though.
Out of the ones you've mentioned I'd probably go for Postern Close for convenience, subject to being satisfied about the parking. There's a great range of little shops on the nearby Bishopthorpe Road, including as someone else says, two Indian restaurants, two small supermarkets, two delis, a butchers, two greengrocers.0 -
York is a small city, no matter where you stay you are only a few minutes from the centre by bus or walking.
I would firstly ensure that you have free parking, some hotels will give you their parking disc or have private parking-check trip advisorFiliss0 -
I always stay at The Lighthorseman. Free parking and a stroll along the river into the city.0

Postern Close is your best bet out of the options0
