Of course you can do it yourself but lets try and establish if its a fair price.Hi, I need my utility room tiling and after gettings quotes I realise it is going to cost about £700 including everything. Is it realistic that i could tile it myself if I took my time?
I realise that tiling is a skilled trade and don't want anyone to think that I think it would be really easy and anyone could do it but I have heard a few people say that they have done it themselves.
Has anyone done it? Am i being really unrealistic?
 Thanks
 Salbot:)
What is the area to be tiled - walls and floor?
What tiles are required - ceramic? porcelain? natural stone?
 What size tiles?
What is the substrate to be tiled over for both walls and floor?
What does "including everything" mean? Does it include supply of tiles, adhesives, grout? Does it include any remedial work to walls? Does it include strengthening the floor if needed? Does it include removal and disposal of old tiles?

Don't see why you should expect smiles. If you don't get the layout right - yes by offering tiles to walls and find centre lines etc - lots of pencil marks ( I draw the line at tracing round each one thoughAlso ( and expecting some smiles) with a complicated pattern or wall, I have been known to draw the tile shapes on the wall . Get the very first tile correct , relative to the area. - have a smile on me) the job will look carp in any event. - have a smile on me) the job will look carp in any event.

Hi, I'm about to tackle tiling my very small bathroom. I am a tiling virgin! But I have made sure that I have equipped myself with all the relevant info (mostly asking my dad!). However, I did find a useful little 2 part video (5 mins each) on youtube that you might like to take a look at- type in 'how to tile a bathroom wall' (it's for a bathroom, but, you know, tiles are tiles (I'll prob get a load of replies now from experts saying 'no, tiles are NOT just tiles'!) but anyway, this is for your run-of-the-mill tiling jobby. It's by 'howto tv' which has a website (just google it) if you can't locate it on youtube for any reason.
Hope this helps- happy tiling! and if you get finished before I get started, let me know any top tips! Cheers!0

I did mine myself with no prior experience. I got fed up of falling over the tiles which had been blocking my freezer for 2 years. We have a rotary wet cutter jobby though and it made the cuts easily. I had to do lots of cutting as I was doing the kitchen, around plug sockets and into window rebates and such like.
I found the grouting a right faff and actually (be prepared for pros to go ) found it easier to grout by wearing a latex glove, scooping a handfull up and smearing it onto the wall. I got far less messy doing it this way than using the correct tool and was able to get it into the gaps much easier.
I now need to work up the enthusiasm to clear off the surface in my utility room so that I can go and tile in there . .
I'm actually better at tiling than painting but I did go to get the kids from school with a great big smear of tile adhesive up the side of my face :rotfl:.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
