HELP! NTL line. Want to call UK landlines/abroad! VOIP or something else????

Hi,

I want to call UK landlines and abroad (canada and india mainly). Would VOIP or something else be cheaper?

If its VOIP, i want to be able to use it without turning the PC on.
I have NTL phone line (with 321 pack) and Broadband.

Advice needed thanks

    Having a BT landline would be much cheaper but, even from a cable landline, you can call Canadian landlines for 4p connection and ½p per minute, Indian landlines for 4p connection and 4p/minute and UK 01/02 numbers for 4p connection and 1p/minute via 18185's freephone access number.

    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    The Phone Co-Op offer off peak calls for a fixed 4.7p for up to 1 hour
    or
    First Telecom offer very cheap per minute prices with 1.2p min call charge
