VW Dealership !!!!-up

In late August this year my wife took delivery of her brand new VW Fox car.
Approx 2 weeks later she received the V5 (registration document) from DVLA at Swansea.
Although the V5 was in my wifes name it was for a completely different
car, different age, make and model.
She immediately contacted the VW dealership she bought the car from and they said there had been a mistake and to return the V5 she had been sent, which she did.
They said they would sort it out and she would soon be in receipt of the correct V5.
Despite her phoning them at least twice a week, (usual rubbish......the manager will call you back but never does) yesterday she reached the end of her tether and rang DVLA herself.
They told her the car is still not registered in her name and they seem to think the car has previously been registered in someone elses name, thus making my wife the 2nd owner of a brand new car (2 miles on clock when collected)
This would obviously affect any resale value of the car.
More worryingly is the fact that DVLA have told my wife that as she isn't the registered keeper of the car she has been driving it uninsured.
We are not particularly interested in any form of compensation.
What we would like to do is give them the car back and they refund the payments we have already made and we just walk away.
Had they been on the ball from the start this could and should have been resolved quickly.
Any help or advice would be most welcome.
Thankyou.

Can't see how you can hand it back and get your money back in fairness
I agree VW have F'd up bad here but it can be sorted
Number of owners will not affect resale price in my opinion but may put people off but a quick explanation to a buyer would resolve that
And finally you do not have to be the registered owner of a car to be insured so i believe that has been bad info from the DVLA. If that was the case, we'd all have to send in our V5's every time we insure a car.
Have the DVLA agreed to send out a new V5?If Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0 -

Of course it will affect the value of the car, the OP should not need to explain anything, they should insist that they are the first registered owner/keeper.
Some insurers only give a full replacement new vehicle for the first year to first registered owners/keepers.0 -
If the dealer is hanging on to the V5 then the dealer could have sold the car to you as a fleet sale which secures him a discount from the manufacturer. A condition of that sale is that you don’t get the V5 for a few months and you are the second owner.0

But surely this should have been pointed out at time of sale and presumably we should have been offered a slice of this discount.
As far as we were led to believe this was a new car sale exactly the same as the previous sale 3 years ago......when the V5 arrived about a fortnight later.0 -
I had a problem with the V5 on my new VW car too, though it was simply the model that was incorrect, and it was a pre-reg so I knew I was the 2nd registered owner.
My first contact to try and fix things was the VW dealer I'd bought the car from, they said they'd get it sorted but didn't. I then got in touch with the DVLA, who tried to contact the dealer to sort it out but got nowhere (the dealer didn't even reply to their letters). It was only fixed after numerous phone calls to Volkswagen, I eventually got confirmation of the correct car details from them which I forwarded to the DVLA and they corrected the V5.
So I'd recommend you get in touch with Volkswagen, I found them to be quite helpful, though the VW dealer network puts me off big timeVW Customer Care

Another thing you could try is apply directly to the DVLA for a NEW V5 in your name. I think you can get the form from the Post Office. The DVLA will write to the previous owner to check this is ok, then if they hear nothing or 'yes fine' then they'll issue you your V5. That doesn't remove the extra owner though...0
