Front door without threshold

Hi, my front door will soon need replacing, and i would like to get rid of the 'lip' you have to lift your foot over. I have elderly people to my house (business reasons) and i feel it is a trip hazard. Are there any upvc doors without this? If not, what is the best type of wooden door to go for? I need a highly glazed door for my dark hallway.

Thanks!

I have a composite door with a ( nearly) flush threshold. Most companies seem to provide them now ( maybe at a cost option )
    e.g http://www.justvaluedoors.com/low-threshold.html
  • Thanks for that but it says its 42mm high. Probably still too high :(

Hi mine are virtually flush, it has a slight cambered strip above the main of the base door frame. Sorry can't remember who did it. we had them done about 9 years ago.

Not even as raised as the one in the picture above.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • Thanks, they must exist then! Will do lots of searching when i need to change the door sometime next year :)

I think mine (two back doors) may have been done by Zenith with the seals on the inside (security supposedly) but good quality doors and no problems (unlike my internal front door which door at a later date via another another company which does have the raised lip and not as good a quality).

What I have is the main door step/threshold and a slight curved bump right in the centre where the door closes.

As with all door sales don't be taken in by the salesman patter to make you think you are getting a better deal out of them. We all know their initial prices are so inflated and you can get the best price only if you commit today!!!!!!

  • Thanks Meadows :))

    Hello,
If you fancy going for a timber door you can have a CDX threshold. It's still a threshold for the door but as it's rounded its not a trip hazard. (don't quote me) but i think it's part 'M' compliant so its good if you need wheelchair acess. I can send you a link to one in a PM if you want to have a look at it.)

I had a PVC door supplied by this company http://www.bonaccordglass.co.uk/index.php/home-improvement-products/bon-accord-doors/front-a-entrance-doors

Threshold was flush with a rubber strip to form the seal
