As any business can choose with whom it chooses to do or not to have a relationshio with without giving a reason, that will be hard to prove. No doubt, if pressed, the conduct of the account will be cited as a reason. What may be bandied around is urban myth hear-say, and statements from those who want to elicit sympathy for their own misbehaviour.0 -

Surely everyone who has been succesful in claiming back bank charges and keeping their bank account will be thanking their lucky stars and vowing that they will never be in that position again. Therefore if the accounts are maintained in a credit balance then there is no reason for the banks to close accounts.
However should the bank have reason to suppose that the account will not be maintained in accordance with their T&Cs then I would consider that they are within their rights to not want such a customer. Businesses are allowed to choose who they deal with.0 -

That's what you would think, however those of us that are more experienced(some would say cynical) know that most of these charges have been as a result of poor financial management so the pattern will almost certainly be repeated.
I am amazed that kenshaz thinks the regulator and law system will have any influence over who the banks choose as their customer.0 -

Bank review of an account:

People who are poor and can't live on their income (or, more often, choose not to live on their income - but that's a different debate) are going to borrow money from somewhere.
If the banks don't lend it to marginal customers - albeit at higher rates of interest - such customers will borrow outside the mainstream, from second-tier or backstreet lenders whose rates of interest are far higher and whose recovery methods leave a lot to be desired.
If you think this will make poorer people better off, I think you are deluded.
You do have a valid point.0 -

I can't vouch for everybody, but when I got my charges back, they paid off my debts and I haven't had a single charge since.0 -
