Changing routers

Ever since I've been wifi, I have used an EchoLife HG0 520s for my talktalk connection. For the most part it has proved to be satisfactory, but when I did have a minor hiccup, TT told me that this model had been prone to issue's and they sent me a new model, but before it arrived, the echolife was back running so their new model was set aside.

Currently I am having a weird experience and wondered if I should make the change now.

With my Wireless LAN Disabled and hovering the curser over the two flashing TV's shows I am connected to my chosen provider yet when I rt click on them, it shows two dial up networks which leaves me wondering if anything is wrong.

With my Wireless LAN Enabled, hovering still shows as before but rt clicking shows my chosen provider with a red cross by the side but a BTFON may be providing the connection?.

There is another icon in the task bar which resembles a lollypop with radiation bars round it which shows WLAN disconnected, so all round, I'm confused.

Although I have wifi, I choose to have my laptop connected physically by Ethernet cable as the router is under my desk and it rarely gets moved, but as for enabling or disabling by turning the wifi on or off is open to advice please.

So with all this going on, were I to remove all connections from my echolife and replace the router with the one sent by talktalk which is a Huawei HG520b what would I need to do and would it automatically sort out things?

You should not have two connections running/connected at the same time, if you are using network cable, then switch off the wireless on your computer, if you are running wireless, just unplug the network cable.

Rubbish. It makes no difference. It will not cause anything to break. It would in fact increase throughput on the local network. It was commonplace to shove several network cards into a server in order to provide higher speeds before gigabit LAN came out.
