Bank Account Question Fraud?

I was fined last year in court for fraud by misrepresentation due to overclaiming expenses in my old job and was recently turned down for a co op acount as they said it was due to fraud.

This is a piece from an article martin has just wrote-

"There are two exceptions to this though, the first is some people with history of criminal convictions for fraud may be turned down (though both banks work with former prisoners to give them access to accounts so it's by no means a definite exclusion).

The second is that the financial regulations require you to have ID."

What i want to know is how do the banks get this information as i thought it could only be disclosed in certain circumstances.

  • Were you applying for a basic bank account or a full current account?

Also have you recently had a copy of your credit report? If the bank have done a credit check on you they'll see info held from your credit report so you may wish to check it and see if there's something on there.
