Window Noise/Draft Problems

Hi all,
Just wondered if someone knowledgable could help. I recently moved into a brand new flat (purpose built block) which have metal framed double glazed windows. However, the windows don't provide very good sound proofing and does not seem to keep the heat for a brand new block of flats (even with a couple of floors below me which uusually helps like my last flat did).
The builder claims that they conform to all regulations so does anybody know of a cheap way of soundproofing and draftproofing the windows more. Because I would have to fund it myself (and am not allowed to changed the whole window) does anybody know of any relatively cheap ways of achieving this - happy to DIY if it saves me money. The windows pivot inwards if that helps.
Thanks in advance...

Hiya are you the first owner? If so you will have a building guarantee and if the builder still refuses to help you with this problem go direct to them. They have to help you with any faults in the first two years from completion.
Also, if you are the first owner you will have been given a homeowner manual, there may be a number to call direct for your window problem. They may be just really crap windows. Do you know what brand of window you have?I love this site :beer:0 -
Hi hazeyj
Already gone down the complaining route but they have alledgedly tested the windows and claim it is withinn the allowable tolerance levels.
Just had a look in my building manual but sadly no manufacturer - has every detail about how to open and close the blinking things but nothing as to who makes them. Also looked on the windows themselves but nothing. The windows have a trickle ventilator at the top which you can open or close. I wonder wonder if that is the source of the drafts and noice even when closed. It protrudes from the window and you pull it down to open it up if that makes sense.0 -
Yep could be. Mine def makes a draft when its open. Maybe yours are faulty?
You could always trying complaining again and getting the council to come out and see if they are the same windows that the developer got permission to use maybe??
The developer should be able to tell you what company was used and if you have a guarantee. Does anyone else in your block have the same problem? If you all moaned then I bet that would help the developer to recognise there is a problem.
Good luckI love this site :beer:0 -
In between the two panes of glasses, on the metal frame, it has the code: BS5713 KM14398 A/04 - does that relate to anything interesting about the window?0
