what make of car is it?

generally its the engine management light, which restricts power to minimize damage.

happened to mine, all down to the exhaust sensor being knackered.

Is it a gm engine vaux,Saab etc?
The old dti engines used to do this to indicate a sensor/control unit issue diag machine needs plugging in to see what is causing the fault.
The car is going in to limp home mode hence lack power
  • I could be wrong but I think on some Vauxhall Diesel engines this indicates that the particulate filter(dpf) requires regeneration - if it is a GM Diesel and there's a dpf fitted.
"on the motorway as i speak" I sincerely hope you're not using a pc on the m'way!

Before going down this route get the EGR valve checked out first. This is a common problem on Ford Duratorq engines and cheaper than injectors.

Diagnostic machines rely on the skill of the users as well as the equipment itself, I presume it has the TDCI diesel engine?

The injectors will need coding to the engine after replacement. You can change just one. Be careful they read the errors
properly, Injector 3 could be number 3 in the block or the 3rd injector in the firing cycle. Does the operator understand that?
