Depends what you are intending to have published. With a limited appeal work you may take a long, long time to find a publisher, if indeed you can find one. Many publishing houses don't accept unsolicited manuscripts or only those from literary agents. With self publishing, as well as arranging printing/binding etc, you have the problem of distribution - will W H Smith or Waterstone want to stock your book.
I don't know if it is still relevant, but I read some years ago that if you do self publish, try to get a different name for the publisher, e.g. author Deals, publisher Slaed and Co.
Good luck and please keep us informed of your progress. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
There are a few 'print on demand' schemes, including one on Amazon. I'd suggest looking into those.Signature removed for peace of mind0

If you are keen on self publishing your own book, here are a few links that you may find helpful.
Blurb - http://www.blurb.com
Fidlar Doubleday Digital Printing - http://www.fidlardoubleday.com
Lulu - http://www.lulu.com/uk
And here are some PDF only sites, (just in case these are also helpful).

I know someone who runs a firm for self-publishers - have a look at their website:-

Use Lulu. Your book title will even appear in Google search. They will also pay your revenue on time.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

do someone know anything about xlibris publishers
Please your help will be of great benefit to me and my co - author. Ae they genuine/scams?0 -
Some of the previous posts have given the links that I was going to (blurb and lulu etc). Re.selling, Amazon will sell your book (you need to register and pay a fee) so long as it has an ISBN number so make sure whoever you publish with also supplies that, some don't.
Good luck0 -
Firms that will 'help' you to publish, charge you a fee, require you to pay for the printing etc, are scams. All vanity publishing is nonsense. If a book is good enough to make money, any genuine publisher will consider it, and if they take it, will do so for free.
If you want to do the whole thing, it might be better to think in terms of an ebook."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
try going through an agent if you think the book is publishable. Try an agent which specialises in your genre.0
