put a blanket or throw over the window an hour or so before litte 'uns bedtime, it keeps in the warmth and keeps out the cold.

Put a warm hot water bottle in the bed and then take it out when he gets in.

Once he's in bed he shouldnt be cold. His own body heat plus duvet should keep him warm enough all night.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

heating during the actual night shouldnt be necessary at all! Unless its snowing!

Keep wrapped up and check the wee meter

hopefully be a bit more comfortable the rest of the week, pretty mild at the moment

If you are feeling the cold at the moment while it's exceptionally mild, you really need to sort something out before winter starts.

What about all-in-one fleece pjs? They had them in Primark the other week, just a few £s, in all sizes including adult!

It is rather mild still. Are you sure the house is not just damp? Make sure you air the whole place (even when raining - not that kind of damp.)
