housing benefit non-compliant landlady

is it possible to claim housing benefit if i fill out the form, and then hand it in without a signature from the landlady?

i want to pay the landlady the rent in cash and then claim it back later, but she won't sign any forms.

Do you have other proof of your tenancy, such as a copy of your contract?

that suggests to me she ha something to hide - like not declaring income or not having permission to rent the property, both of which can bring their own problems. If she won't admit you rent from her and they want to contact her to check details, how's that going to work then?

What do you think her situation is?
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

i presume that she has nothing to hide, its probably a class issue, or maybe she thinks that dealing with the housing benefits agency is a lot of hassle

Many LLs simply don't want to rent to people on benefits. Their choice.

i know this, but is it possible to claim housing benefit if i fill out the form, and then hand it in without co-operation from the landlady? i would pay the rent in cash then claim it back later without the landladys knowledge of the claim

Are you going to be a lodger in her home, or are you going to be renting a flat or house for your own sole use?

If it is as a lodger, you will certainly need a lodgers agreement, and I can't see a way round that, as she is not obliged to give you one.

If it is a place on an assured shorthold tenancy, for your own use, then in theory you could move in, get the tenancy agreement, and make the claim. But in practice how are you going to pay the deposit and the monthly rent until your LHA claim is assessed?

it will be a rented flat on a 6 or 12 month let with a tenancy agreement. i will pay the deposit and rent from my cash. what is a LHA claim?

her insurance may allow her to let to a tenant on benefit. should the worst happen and she needs to make a claim, her policy could be void!
