Barclays Reserve account

Hi I wondered if anyone can help me,

I have my accounts with Barclays and they recently added a reserve account to the end of my overdraft for £150. it means I can go over my overdraft into my reserve and not get charges for going over my overdraft unauthorised... but they charge you £22 for every 5 working days you are in this reserve account..
They added it without asking me if i wanted it although i do have the option to take it off. I went up to my overdraft limit before but never over but since i have had this reserve account i have dipped into once or twice as things got hard when i got divorced.

A couple of months back i got a bit of spare money from doing extra shifts at work and paid off the reserve account and what i thought my charges would be, but i obviously miscalculated as when the charges came out it put me back in the reserve... now getting charged at £22 every 5 working days.
I get paid monthly and dont have the cash to get myself back out of it at the moment. when i do get paid i could get myself out of it again but then i have the charges will come out again and put me back in and i can see it going on like that for a while. If i could now i would just cancel it as i didnt want it in the first place, but if i cant get out of it i cant cancel it.
Is there anything i can do about it.. I reckon ive already paid nearly £200 in charges since ive had it and because of this month i bet there will be another £88 of charges by the time i get paid..

Please help x

  • were the charges definately for the reserve? i mean, it wouldn't be a lot, but there'll be the fee you pay for using your overdraft (only pennies, tbh, maybe a few pounds, but not much. unless its interest free, obv.) also, if you had returned payments, like standing orders and direct debits, there'll be an £8 charge for each of those. It may be an amalgamation of charges, rather than all for the reserve? maybe...
  • obviously ill now be getting charged interest on this overdraft as well but the £22 i get charged every 5 working days is for being in my reserve amount, whether that be for 1p or £100.. Its ridiculous and now i dont know how to get out of it.. £22 a week, its gonna be £88 for this month alone!
