Wierd smell in Micra

I posted on here a while back about a Nissan Micra I bought in August with 1800 miles on it, I had had a few problems with it since and it needed an 02 sensor replacing after about a month.

Luckily I have had no problems (touch wood) since apart from over the last few days I have noticed that when it engine hits 3000 revs + for periods of more than a few seconds, a rather strange smell fills the car. It is almost like a burning smell but not quite. Its hard to describe it, sorry, i know that isnt much help!

I was just wondering if it was worth getting it looked at while it is still under warranty with the garage ( its only under warranty until 11th Nov).

It otherwise seems to be running fine and is now on about 4200 miles.

I dont think its heater related as there doesnt seem to be a correlation between it being on and the smell. I just cant decide whether it is worth getting it looked at!

Could be a few things but as an educated guess I'd say the clutch is slipping

Could be anything from the brakes or clutch (unlikely unless they're faulty though), to spilled oil on the manifold or a dead thing burning up on the exhaust that you hit a week ago....:beer:

Need more info ideally. Does it smell sweet? This could indicate leaking anti-freeze. Is it an actual burning smell you'd smell on an everyday basis?

Almost a burning rubber smell? Clutch I think. It's very strange for a clutch to go in just 4,200 miles though unless driven exceedingly badly. If it is the clutch it will no doubt be excluded from the warranty unfortunately, even though you would expect one to last much longer.

Ive been driving it for the last few days and trying desperately to analyse the smell, ive got got much further than 'hot' but a friend was with me and randomly suggested that it smelt a bit likre burning hair and I dont think they are a million miles off the mark. Its not a smell like actual burning, more like something else is burning or being burnt off. It is reliably only when pulling away quickly or touching 3000 revs for a few seconds. Its not overpowering but the smell definitely fills the cabin.

Its going in on tuesday, hopefully it wont cost me much, im hoping its something and nothing but hmmmmm, we'll see :-/

Im also thinking automatic warning system!! Gosh, I miss my old speedy fiesta!!

Ironically it smells just like my laptop when ive left it on my bed for a bit and its getting a bit hot!
