Car tracker device

Options
My insurer insists on me fitting a tracker to my new caravan. Can't find any unbiased info on the best/cheapest.

Can anyone help?

  • they are worth fitting, as to best cheapest they all do one thing and thats prevent, detur, and in the event of theft activate via being reported to the tracking company. they are not the cheapest things in the world, and youll have to sign up to a subscription to the service. and fitting it requires an approved autolecky. i'd say your best option is to go to a tracker supplier and fitter to get the overall price some have deals on trackers and fitting.

Did the dealer not offer you a suitable tracker already fitted?

Check to see what your insurance company approve, No point buying something they do not find
    acceptable.

Also will it be stored at home or in storage? Battery life maybe an issue.

Cat amogst the Pigeons here but as far as I know, they're pointless. The criminals leave the vehicle parked in a side street for a week or so incase it has a tracker, so when the Police track the vehicle down they find the vehicle but not the criminals = no closure to the case = looks bad on statistics = Police stop going after trackered vehicles.

Get the insurance company to specify the device and its supplier.

The police do not always liase with the tracking companies, so no-one will be following where the caravan is in the country until it "settles somewhere". It may be up to you to tell the local police of its location, and hope they will respond.

I speak from experience of a friend who had a valuable vintage vehicle with a tracking device that was stolen.

From reading my motorhome magazines a company called VanBitz in Somerset gets highly recommended.
