Connecting laptop to tv

Hi
my son is trying to connect his toshiba laptop to his proline ld1501 tv.
He is using a vga to s-video cable but he can not get the tv to pick up the computer.
Is he on the right track with the cable he is using?

Thanks

Are you selecting the AV input corresponding to the S-Video socket?
    AV1, AV2, A1, A2 etc.

Are you sure the laptop is outputting an S-Video signal at the VGA port?

The laptop can find the tv but the tv can not find the laptop when i select AV1 AV2
  • Unless the Laptop can specifically output to a TV this is not going to work, the VGA port on a laptop is for a monitor and the signal will not work for a TV unless the TV also has a VGA port and you go VGA > VGA.

Just in case it will work, I take it you have switched the Laptop over to that output, you will need to tell it to use the VGA port on the laptop, it will not work automatically, I think it is Function F5 for a Toshiba.
