Does cancelling CC's affect your credit rating?

I can't imagine why it would but I thought I would ask in any case.
I like to use a few different CC's to maximise the bonus I get when spending on work expenses etc. I will change cards when better ones come out or current ones pull deals etc. I always pay off the balance in full every month.
I don't like having lots of cards lying around though so I would prefer to cancel the accounts.
Would cancelling a CC have any adverse affect on my credit rating?
Thanks
Richard
