senior rail card
No doubt this seems a stupid question,:o but I want to book a rail journey with a senior rail card, which i haven't got yet. If i buy the rail tickets first and state I have a rail card, will i be ok to get the rail card later? Told you it was a stupid one.
trying to make it last for as long !!! possible. Well this is a money saving forum.

As long as you have the senior Railcard when you come to make your rail jounry, it'll be fine. If you still haven't got your railcard, yet chose to travel, you will be committing an offence and there'll be the risk that a Revenue guy or gal will report you for said offence, or at best Penalty Fare you. I'm working with the assumption that you wont need to give the railcard number to anyone upon booking, which you obviously wont have yet. Or have I completely misunderstood the question? lol. But yeah, there's nothing wrong with booking it like this!0 -

Thanks for that, they are not asking for a card no. when I look at the booking form.Well i thought if I book the tickets now for January and don't get the card for a few weeks then i will have longer to use it. Hope I'm making sense to you. I have found a 10% offer on the senior card that doesn't expire till dec.0 -
I think I see where you're coming from. Are you saying you're getting the Senior Railcard mainly for this journey, but if you get it sooner rather than later, you'll be able to use it in the meantime, thus saving you money? That's the way I read it anyway, as you could feasably apply in late November and still have it by January taking the Christmas postal rush in to account!Thanks for that, they are not asking for a card no. when I look at the booking form.Well i thought if I book the tickets now for January and don't get the card for a few weeks then i will have longer to use it. I think the OP wants to delay buying the railcard until the latest possible time before his next journey, which is in January, but buy SNR tickets before getting the railcard.
This will mean he can use the railcard up to Jan 2012, but if he bought it now it would expire Oct 2011.
OP, what you are proposing is perfectly ok.0 -
I've done this with my Family and Friends railcard, it has expired (11th Oct) but won't be making a rail journey where I need it until Xmas. (Kids travel free in Scotrail Zone
)
Have already bought my Xmas cheap Advance tickets with F&F railcard discount but at present don't have a valid F&F railcard.
Why have I done this, 1/ for a longer validity of the card and 2/ Hopefully a 25% discount code might come along before Xmas, else I'll use the 10% one I've got.
You'll only be able to do this online, as if you ask for tickets with a railcard discount at the railway station in my experience they always ask to see your railcard.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
My local council sells Senior railcards at a discount (more than your 10%) to buying at the station, perhaps you could ask at their customer service desk. I bought one last year, and again this year. It's basically just like applying at the station, without having to go to a manned station.0
