Compaq nc4010 with Windows XP start up issue

Hi
I've a compaq nc4010 laptop installed with Windows XP. The laptop is running fine and boots up fine after shut down.
However, if I use standby or hibernate options, or if laptop goes into stanby/ hibernate mode due to power saving settings, I lose display.
After restoring the system from standby or hibernate mode, the screen starts ok but remains black, which means the coloured Windows display does not come on.
After a full shut down or restart, the display seems to work normal again. This display issue is getting annoying to me now and I could not find any help online.
Could someone please advise on here?
