Non-dependant deductions

A relative of mine who is over 25 years old and lives with her mother was recently claiming JSA. She signed off for a couple of months and could not find work during that period. The reason for signing off is unclear although she was still looking for work.
Now her mother has had a 'non-dependant deduction' made from her CTB of about £2.30 per week for that period. The total to be paid is about £50 as i understand it.
Does anyone know if she has a case for appealing this? The main reason being that she didnt work during the period she had signed off. Her mother provided her with living accommodation and food. But the non-dependant deduction made is assuming she has supported herself or has other means of income. thanks

No, she would not be able to appeal against this. £2.30 per week is the lowest non-dependent deduction and will apply for any non-dependent who is not working. Unless the mother is receiving DLA care.0

Or if the claimant is over 65 the non dep deduction would be delayed for 26 weeksI currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
