Childcare element of CTC

Hi,
We have been claiming CTC since our son was born in Feb. We received a letter through the door a few weeks ago saying we need to repay £xk in tax credits. However, even if we are repaying out of this years award is the childcare element protected? Because we will need this for my partner to go back to work..

Why do you have to pay it back? How have they adjusted the award?August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61
