Induction hob from Ikea..

Anyone tell me who makes the NUTID HIN4T induction hob from ikea?

The staff at Ikea were not sure, they just said its whirlpool or electrolux. We tried to look under the display hob, and it looked like it had a whirlpool sticker on, we have called whirlpool and they insist they do not make induction hobs for ikea, and thats its is made by electrolux. Unable to get through to electrolux (held on for 20 minutes only to find I had been in the queue for extended warantees:mad:)

Reason for needing to know, is that the ikea website recommends a 38mm worktop for the hob, we are going to have a solid quartz worktop which are only made in 30mm depth.

Tried emailing and asking both companies, but for some reson my post code is not valid, so the emails are not being accepted...its one of those dys!

We asked in Ikea why this is recommended, to see if there was a way round it (ie was it for wortop strength, ventilltion, hob depth etc) but they didnt know, and just recommended contacting the manufacturer.

If anyone knows, or actually has one (or the fitting instructions) please let me know, im going round in circles!!

Thank you.

Induction hobs are deeper than regular hobs. If it says 38mm worktop, it probably actually means that you need at least 38mm clearance.

Even with a set of drawers underneath you should have around 50-55mm safe clearance with a 30mm top before it gets near the actual drawer. I know this because right now I have a 30mm quartz top waiting for a replacement hob as I got one of the measurements wrong and the hob is 79mm deep when I thought it was 50mm. :(

This site says it's 52mm deep so you just need to be careful if there is a drawer underneath.

  • We fitted one in our kitchen about 2 months ago and I remember unpacking it and finding whirlpool stickers. Ours is fitted over a draw in a 38mm worktop and the draw opens fully with no problems, whether it would in a 30mm worktop is doubtfull but if yours can be fitted over a cupboard, all is well.

    Presumably it's this one. http://www.ciao.co.uk/Whirlpool_Framtid_HIN4T__7322876

Edit: Perhaps not. Doesn't look the same actually. Ignore me!

Thanks for all the help, hopefully its to go over a built in fan oven, so not a problem with drawers.

On the one we saw at ikea, it looked like there was a fan under it in one corner, and ive read a spec for an indesit induction hob which mentioned a 'safety cut out if it overheats because of poor ventilation' and suggests cutting a hole into the ajacent cupbord!! So im wondering if space below is important for this.

Im sure our last built in oven didnt come all the way to the top, ie the facia at the front with all the buttons stood a couple of inches higher than the body of the oven, wonder if that would be enough.

Oh the joys of trying to get everything individually rather than getting it all from the place Im getting the kitchen from (who have quoted around £2000+ for 'midrange' extractor, fan oven and induction hob, where i have no feel for the functions, looks, design, reviews, spec etc)
  • Hi lindos

I had a similar issue when fitting my son's kitchen. He had a Neff built-under double oven and the induction hob specifications called for slightly more clearance (e.g. minimum worktop depth) than his chosen worktop thickness.

I called the hob manufacturer who said it was a recomendation to avoid possible problems with both cooling/ventilation and electronic interference.

As we were only talking about a few mm's, I decided to risk it but I did cut a slot in the top of each adjoining cabinet to provide some extra ventilation.

Been in over 18 months now and never had a problem with either hob or oven.

    Hope this helps.

I have the Ikea induction hob - sorry I've no idea on its dimensions. It does have a small fan which only occasionally kicks in - usually when I'm either cooking for a long time or also running the oven below. It isn't very loud.

Assuming you're installing into an ikea oven unit, the oven unit has a huge hole in the base as the back to allow cables and airflow from under the kitchen units. The oven will install with a small gap at the top between it and the worktop - so there should be airflow around the hob. I guess the worry is if your hob winds up too close to your oven. Perhaps in that situation you just install the oven lower - it was all adjustable, and the instructions for it all included diagrams for reducing the size of the drawer under the oven to suit.

Thanks, we decided against an ikea kitchen, as we were told it didnt have a 'service gap' at the back of the cupboards for pipes etc.

We are making life more complicated for ourselves by finding things individually, rather than just getting it 'all under one roof'. Perhaps we are taking on too much.

However one kitchen company are quoting us over £600 for a basic induction, and over £4000 for quartz worktops! If the ikea one does the same job, then thats half the price, and we have also found a local granite and marble workshop who have quoted £2500 for the quartz, so it pays to shop around, but its a nightmare to co-ordinate!

We are going for a single oven, so hopefully sounds like there will be room for manover with the hob!

The only reason I didn't have an induction hob is that there wasn't enough clearance between the hob and the double oven underneath. I ended up just having a glass hob.

I was disappointed but there was nowhere else to put thr oven.

    Check the clearance.
