you cant claim dvla for depression and self harm - medication and councelling is needed everyone would go around cutting themselves up and claiming dvla...help and care is needed bless her sounds like she needs help
Actually you can claim DLA for depression (including self harm),as long as she's had it for 3 months and will have it for the next 6, and has care/mobility needs i know this because thats partly why I claim. I agree first and formost she should be getting the support she need before thinking of the financial side. I've had MH probs since i was 11 but ony claimed DLA from 22.

None of you have any idea what my family or My poor daughter are going through or been through so i don't really think your in a possition to start making me feel the way you just did my posting those comments. i'm doing what i can at the moment to make my daughters life bareable

Whilst I have no doubt that you are going through a tough time, you will find that many of us do know what you are going through and even more so, what your daughter is going through. As someone who has had mental illness since my teens, I can tell you that love, understanding and a stable home life mean more than all the money in the world. I am not saying that she has not got them already, but it is the non monetary things that are most important here.

I think it best not to take advice from someone who refers to DVLA.
    Gone ... or have I?

I came here for advice not critisism and judgment.

Most of the people who commented including myself do know how your feeling which is why they have commented.
I suffer from depression, have self harmed and spent last year in intensive care following a suicide attempt.
The most important thing is that she is now under the mental health team and is having the correct treatment.
As people have said you have to have had the needs for 3mths and need them for a further 6mths.
Over the next few months you will be able to see how your daughter is with the treatment and then evaluate the need for DLA. The mental health team or her social worker can assist you with the forms!

Why do you think that people have criticised or judged you rather than offered you advice? I can't see anything other than good advice posted here.

Don’t you all think that this lady has been through enough already?
She really doesn’t need people saying she is doing the wrong thing. If you cant offer this lady any help in answering her questions, then please don’t reply. She is not after you opinion she is after help. I for one hope all works out for you and your daughter. Having been through this with my cousin I know what I’m talking about.
