Hi,
I am having anoying trouble with my Toshiba SD-R1312 combo drive fitted to my pc. For the past 3 years its given me trouble free service however now I cant get it to regonise writeable CD's. When I try to burn files to it it keeps saying no disk in drive. I have gone through the entire spindle of discs with the same problem. I have tried putting in previously burned discs from the same manufacturer and it can find the files. It will also happily run DVD's. I have tried to install a newer driver but the driver wizard tells me its the most up to date. I am now very confused.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
The best way to fix something like this is a quick firmware update of the drive.
Take a look here http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=8182000000220000000100006598000026ba/818200000a4a000000010000659c000023ee .
Please make sure you read the warnings first though!0 -
Thanks Weemee, i'll give it a try at home tonight. Fingers crossed. Just not sure why it stopped regonising the discs although I havent burnt a CD for a while.0

Still no luck, I have tried the firmware update and the drive still doesent read CDR discs. Not sure as to what to do now. Will I need to junk the drive??0

Have you ever cleaned the drive, I always clean mine with a dvd cleaner, worth a try
I have nothing better to do!!!!

good Idea Startrekker, I assumed that as discs played in the unit, the lens must be ok. Ill try a cleaner.0

Hmm, I've been pondering over this one some more.
Do you have any other CD-r's from another manafacturer you could try?0 -
Well I tried the lens cleaner, and still no effect. Yes weemee, my brother brought me some of his files he wanted to burn to some CD-r's he had. They were from a different brand. The fact that these didnt work in the drive prompted me to try my old faithfull brand. Which obvously didnt work as well.
I am now running out of ideas.0 -
what software are you using to burn?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Drives sometimes fail with no obvious explanation and if it's a hardware fault then they're not really worth the cost and effort to repair, are you able to put the drive in a friends puter and try it out ?
[Edit] . . you could try changing the IDE cable that connects to your cd drive.0
