First Asda delivery experience - what happens when it arrives?!

May sound like a silly question but I don't know who else to ask as I'm not aware of anyone who has done it before!

I bought a "big" shop on Asda last night and it should be getting delivered today at between 4-6pm. Can I just ask how it arrives? What happens when the delivery person turns up at the door?

Is it pre-bagged for me in the free bags or what?

  • I've bought from Tesco and Sainsburys. CAn't see they'd be any different from ASda. Sometimes they will take the shopping into the kitchen for you. I get them to pass it to me in my hall so I can stop my kitten escaping out the front door...
They'll hand you the list of items you've purchased and tell you what they've substituted. Then they literally hand it all over to you in bags (though Tesco have option of a bag-free delivery).
It's quite addictive! It's really easy too. Annoying thing is waiting for them to come- I find whatever my plans, I am spending the time slot waiting for them to come rather than just getting on with life!!
    Enjoy your delivery.

Yeah it's always been easy with Tesco, they do seem to be in a rush as most delivery people are, but we just take all the bags and shove them in the living room (dogs are blocking the way to the kitchen until we close the door), take subs, sign form and off you go.

It's noted on the Del Sheet that you are a new customer so the driver should take the time to explain the receipt and substitutions.

The Asda man with me dumps the shopping at the front door whereas the Tesco man brings it right in and puts it on my kitchen worktops (he so friendly that I suspect if I asked him to put it in the cupboards and freezer he would!!!)

My first experence of Asda home delivery was very poor, the driver was awful, VERY unhelpful complained about this and got free delivery and a £10 e coupon for next time which was yesterday. This time I had excellent service from the driver, he was so helpful as the kids are off school at the mo they carried the bags into the kitchen , but he insisted in carrying the crate filled with fresh fruit juice as the kids were busy with the bags (don't know if my complaint had filtered down) Excellent service in general this time.

Wow, it sounds excellent! Thanks for the replies. Hahaha, I just joked to my mum over email about whether they'd actually put it away in the cupboards for me too :rotfl:

I'll have the same problem as catslovelycats as our new kitten is shut in the kitchen and living room at the minute so it would be best if he just gives it all over to me in the hallway to save the little 'un escaping!

Oooh, I'm looking forward to it now. Hope the delivery person is friendly and helpful - otherwise I shall complain too! (s'worth doing isn't it if you're not completely happy). :D

Well what an excellent experience that was - they rang to ask if I minded them coming early (which suited me absolutely fine) and turned up 10 mins later - lovely chap, well packed food - he explained it all to me and I've been "upgraded" on a few things I'd ordered that they've given me substitutes for. Very nice. Also got £40 worth of vouchers as I spent over £40 on the shop. Marvellous.

I tell you what, I'll be doing that again - the thought of having to get all that with my 3 and a half year old sitting in the trolley with all the queues and annoying lane hoggers during half term fills me with dread!! :D
  • Yea they were really helpful when i used them as well. I did a big shop with them to be delivered the day that i moved into my new flat. I was unsure whether they would find me because my flat is well hidden but they found me no problem. The delivery man was really nice and explained to me how it all worked, how substitutes worked if i order them too. Apparently they will also take carrier bags away to be recycled if you want as well - i would assume ones from earlier orders when you've had a chance to unpack them though!

They'll recycle any carrier bag you give them, keep giving them ones I've collected from the week!
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

Tesco's will deliver with no bags - but then its much harder to get all the shopping out of the trays quickly -so now we do 'with bags'. diver will put where you want them - we have on kitchen table but could be living room or passage - ro doorstep if you prefer.
No wonder they rush - one driver said they're allocated about 7mins to drop stuff off - so you don't always get a chance to check everything before they leave.

Check things? We barely get a chance to set the bags down on the floor!

Last delivery we had they forgot our 2 for £5 packs of mince, emailed them and it was refunded 2 days later - simples.
