Apologies if this is in the wrong place.
I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a bank account for under 16's where they could have a cash card with the account.
At the moment my son has a savings account with a building society with a payment book that I am the trustee to and have to take the money out for him. He has his child benefit paid into the account so that he uses this for buying his own clothes, dvds etc, but as the building society is only open certain days it means me subbing him the money and then having to withdraw it. I obviously dont want an account where he could go overdrawn, but him having a cash card would be so much easier
Thanks in advance

Lloyds and Santander (shudder) tend to offer a decent rate.0 -

My son, 13, has an hsbc account with a debit card so he can either withdraw cash or pay by card (eg for mobile phone top up). Very handy. He has been known to sub us!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I would recommend the HSBC MyAccount
http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/under18s
You get a ViSA Debit card, faster payments (not that it will matter so much) and a great internet banking interface that is available on all accounts.0 -
My 13 year old has a halifax account. He can use his card in shops as well as the cashpoint, just needs to make sure he keeps £1 in there. I set up on line banking for it so i can see what he is spending.
I transfer my 6 halifax £5's to him each month for his allowance.0
