Thanks, it's good to know the system works.

The claim form requires evidence of the item and value of the item - did you simply attach the eBay listing details and paypal transaction as the required evidence?

[I ask because I've heard Royal Mail are giving eBay claims a rough ride].

  • I've claimed twice for spain and for russia and not had a problem getting the compensation through. Just ebay, paypal printouts and the cop. Getting used to filling out the claim forms, mostly inland though, seem to have had a fair few in the last year or so!

Sorry but can I just say that for the people sending me pms for specific info on various ebay/paypal topics I'm sorry if i am not responding but some of the questions are really more approrpiate to be placed on threads on the main board so that you get other views, not just mine. I understand that due to the tone of some threads you may feel uncomfortable about asking, but if you want to send me the question I will post it in my name and mention that it is a user that requires anonymous advice (really only though for questions you feel you may be flamed for).

on that basis this is a response to X who asked me about a recent RM claim.

Yes, paypal were correct in finding for your buyer even though you suspect they claimed INR due to them disliking your postage charge. You were unable to prove delivery so will always lose a paypal claim. As for RM I doubt whether an appeal would work even though you are out of pocket. It has been a while now since they changed the rules and it is common for them to just pay item cost and actual postage. As youritem was £4.99 and the postage £2.75 your compensation cheque of £7.74 is correct, I'm not sure they will actually pay out the rest of your postage charge of £9.25 even though it leaves you out of pocket.

As for your final question I don't know so will ask it here for you:

'As I am so out of pocket due to a crooked buyer I cashed my compo cheque from Royal Mail does this mean I can't now ask for more or have I accepted the compo'
