hi,
i'm thinking of applying to the nhs low income sceme to get free nhs treatment..........
i am not working, and only receive DLA,
the form asks about savings etc........a few weeks ago i took £10,000 out of my bank - i used this to clear a debt ( money i owed my brother - he gave me money whilst i was at university - over 10 years ago)........the rest was used to do decoration around the house...........
hence, do i state this on the form even though i do not have that money anymore?? i'm hesitant to apply as i don't want to get in trouble for leaving out 'past savings'.........
not sure as the form doesn't clarify.......
thanks for any help

I dont know how it works with applying for the low income scheme, but certainly in the means tested benefits world that would be seen as "deprivation" of capital as the money being paid back would be seen as a non priroity debt.
It does seem questionable whether you can dispose of 10K and then claim "low income".

Is there a time limit, what would happen if you paid off a debt, bought a house or car and than a year or 2 later you applied for a means tested benefit.
How far back do they look, you could of just bought a car and a week late become ill.0 -
OP, why is your only imcome D L A?as it isnt counted as 'income' then surely you should be entitled to benefit of some kind?0
