Venice-Marco Polo airport to Rialto

We are visiting Venice for the first time shortly and have booked a hotel very close to the Rialto Bridge.

Could anyone familiar with the transport system tell me how to get to the Rialto Bridge the cheapest way?

We will be arriving late morning

Many thanks
Filiss

There's a direct boat. Not as cheap as swimming though. http://www.alilaguna.it/lineaarancio-eng.html You can also book via Venice connected.

Hi, we got a bus from the airport to Venice Mestre Station, got off the bus and then walked across the square and all the vaporetta stops are in front of you, you buy your ticket in the main airport hall and the bus stop was straight outside the terminal, it was very easy and not expensive, going back to the airport we got a water taxi from our hotel to the airport, which was fabulous, but that cost about 75 euros - you can get that if you follow a short walkway from the airport building - have a look at the airport website http://www.veniceairport.it/core/index.jsp?_requestid=492990

I got the water taxi from the Airport and I loved it but it is very EXPENSIVE We paid 95 euro.
Felt like James Bond whizzing along! Our Hotel had its own landing pier. The following morning we ate breakfast on the terrace and could see everything. St Marks all the Gondola and all the traffic on that canal. Love Venice!! We go a water taxi again to the Ship and paid 70 euro but that was sheer robbery as it was no distance at all.
They have the prices on display. Getting off the VP at St Marks meant we would have had to take our cases up and down short flight of stairs.

can i just say don't get off the bus at mestre station as this is not in Venice - you need to stay on till the last stop in venice itself which is piazza roma which is where all the vaparetto stops are. I think you need vaparetto no 1 for rialto bridge but please check the many posts on here abouve venice which will give you lots of (moneysaving) tips for transport and much advice.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Can anyone suggest any veggie restaurants, please?

Oh, and do the supermarkets sell bags of ice cubes?

We got the Alilaguna from Marco Polo it is a water bus and departs from a dock just along from the water taxis. Just turn left when you come out of the airport and follow covered walkway and signs. It is more expensive than the bus but far cheaper than a water taxi. Bus is by far the cheapest way into Venice and you could walk for Plazza Roma to Rialto or take vaperetto but this would add to cost making it about the same as Alilaguna.

I wanted to arrive in Venice via the water and we were told water taxis were very expensive so Ailiaguna was the option we picked. The cost was 24 euros return or 14 euro one way. For the Rialto you will need Linea ARANCIO which stops at the Rialto. In the summer season it leaves Maroc Polo on the hour from 09-00 until 19.00 and then 20.40 to 23.40. Not sure if these times are the same Autumn/Winter. Here is their web address www.alilaguna.it.

    Hope that helps.

If you do go by bus keep on till last stop Plazza Roma and the catch vaperetto No1 to the Rialto. There is a COOP supermarket right behind vaperetto No 1 stop at Plazza Roma but do not know if it sells ice.

Try to get a seat at the front outside on the vaperetto - it is a great way to see the Grand Canal.

    Have a wonderful time.

We went to La Zucca - it was fabulous vegetarian restaurant, but you did need to book - as it is very small, we ended going back another twice - brilliant.
