Quote for a plaster skim in the lounge

Options
Hi

My 16.5 ft by 11 ft lounge needs a plaster skim as having removed the wallpaper the plasterboard wall suffered!

Ive been quoted £320 so skim it. Does this sound ok? Its a v simple rectangular room with no tricky corners etc

Also, the guy said he needed to seal it 12 hrs before plastering. Does this sound right?

Many thanks!!

  • Sounds right to me.
My builder charged me slightly less, but he is a friend, so I probably got a discount.
Does this also include the cost of materials?

I know it's easy to say because it depends where you live but...
Skimming a wall that size, 3 hours absolute tops. Maybe a half hour visit to seal.

My eyes would water if I was asked for more than £200. Get two more quotes.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc
  • Hello
Im guessing you are refering to the whole room plastered not just a single wall, if thats the case then that is a fair price, if I have my sums correct your room equals about 60 m2 (if the ceiling is included) which roughly equates to £30 for plaster and another £5 or so for beads/PVA etc that size room would take me 2 days (my day rate is £150) and the room would be perfect and left spotless, as always try and go for a recomendation, if not always get 3 quotes

Sorry guys, I misread the post as one wall (though it was obvious).
    Yes, fair price.

    Thanks for the replies!!

I got three quotes, £320, £335 and one for £390 which I haggled down to £300.

Went for the cheapest and it looks superb!
  • A success story based on recommendations from here - maybe there should be a "success story" thread - perhaps with before and after pictures?
