I sow most of my chillis after Feb and always have loads - I can't see that being the reason that you only got one.
The trick with chilis is to put them in as big a pot as you can, put a good amount of manure or organic potassium based fertiliser in the pot and nip off the first flower when it shows. Then, you get a good root ball, good nutrients even if you forget to feed it, and it thinks it's dying so throws out new flowers and at least doubles or triples your chilli harvest. Oh, and keep them on the dry side of moist, not the wet side.
That could be where i went wrong this year :rotfl:
I sowed the carrots at the end of august and winter cabbage at the beginning of august. it was very hit or miss, but so far its all been a hit0 -
We have just moved into a house with a small garden but I would still like to have a veg patch. The garden was covered with fence to fence grass when we moved in but I have dug 4/5' borders and planted up shrubs/bulbs etc. After the patio is laid there will be no more grass and I will have an area of 8'x14' for the veg. I have dug over most of this and have planted a goosberry and redcurrant bush, rhubarb and garlic. I would like to grow runner beans, beetroot and cut and come again lettuce and anything else I can squeeze in. How do I find out about the when/why/how of succession planting so I can get the best out of this small plot. Oh and by the way I intend to have old railway sleepers around the sides so the bed is raised.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0
