Acai Berry Scam Recurring payments

Options
I feel very embarrased, but I have been duped by a company offering a free trial of Acai Berry diet pills. The website suggested that I would only pay $2.95 shipping, but I have been charged $87.13 which works out at £54.48 on my credit card. I've been researching what I can do, and after speaking to my credit card company, Halifax, and the Consumers Association it seems that as it was in the terms and conditions that I will be paying for a new supply every month, then I am stuffed to pay this. I've phoned Diet Max on 441617680100 to cancel the order, and filled out an online form, but not had an email confirmation for it yet. The woman says that it is cancelled but I'm worried as I don't have anything in writting to this effect. I've cancelled by credit card, but apparantly the company can still take payment from it. I'm worried that this could go on for ever. Has anyone had a similar experience? How long has their card been debited for? Does anyone have an email or a physical address for Diet Max? I'm worried to death over this. Thanks for your help.

  • Thanks for the link NeverInDebt.
  • I too have been conned by these fraudsters to the tune of £56.71, I have just contacted my bank, Lloyds TSB who have told me to phone back a disputes department on Monday morning and that they will deal with the matter.
I tried emailing these scammers but it was just returned as being a non-existent e-mail address.
It appeared as a free trial with £1.95 postage cost's but nothing was said about taking more money out of my account on a monthly basis.
The postal address on the package is:
    Order Processing Centre
47 West Polk St Ste 100-248
    CHICAGO IL 60605 - 2085.

Luckily I have not tried the diet tablets, Who knows what poison could be in them?

I have also fallen for the Acai scam. My bank statement says the US company is called Youth Nutrition International. Tel: 001 8776 192 649 in Florida. I googled them and found nothing but came across this forum with many other people facing the same problem. So then I phoned my bank and it's Fraud Team phoned Florida on my behalf and instantly connected me to the number - and taped the conversation. The man on the other end was all-Mr-American-Pie and was obviously proficient at taking complaint calls, ma-am! They have got their assess extremely well-covered with small print/legal terms; apparently we have joined a lifestyle membership club and this was all fully explained on their website when we signed-up for the free trial. I tried to explain that I have never been on their website - the free offer was via a pop-up that blocked me doing anything further until I filled it in. I did not go to their website and I did not read the T&C. I also have not taken one tablet yet - let alone completed the trial course of pills - so can't possibly know if they work or if I wish to order more. Hardly a free trial if they take the next payment on the same day as the P&P for the free trial pack! Anyway all argument and logic was wasted on the man - who said his name was RAIN. He was unable to give me a website address that worked and I waited on the phoneline while he said he would send me an email with a link to the site, guess what it never arrived. However he did offer to cancel my next and future payments - mainly because the call was being recorded I think - so I will wait with baited breath to see if that happens. After the call I spoke to my bank again and they are going to make further investigations into this blatant scam. The first payment is lost, but now that I have notified the bank of the problem, if any further payments are taken, the bank will have to cover them/refund me. If you speak to your bank ask them to set up a CONTINUOUS CANCELLED PAYMENT. What an irritating nightmare, hope you manage to get your banks to stop your payments. RD

Wouldn't it be a lot less risky to just eat less?

Absolutely, I only caved in because the pop-up was so relentless, I was completing a survey and it came back after every page, so that in the end I gave in and filled it in thinking what the heck I can give 'em a go and if they are rubbish it's only £2 p&p lost, never imagined there would be this ensuing nightmare. There are 100s of websites across USA warning people so they must have shifted over here for some easy money, I expect 100s of Brits now have the same problem I did with the pop-up and are chasing their cash. The service from my bank - Firstdirect - was exemplary. RD
  • Never heard of a CONTINUOUS CANCELLED PAYMENT before.

    What is this exactly?
