Just had my renewal notice for my car insurance...
Nothing changed from last year, apart from an additional years' no claims.
Last year £480. This year... £960!!!!:eek:
Best quote an hour down the line using every comparison site and a couple of independants: £829.
I was worried when I heard the news reports about some young drivers having a 50% increase this year!!

Thats a big jump. Best to shop around even going back to same insurer can be sometimes cheaper if you join as a new customer plus sometime you get cashback from quidco or topcashback0

Sounds like kwit fit insurance..lol
Gave me a quote a few years back beating my old quote by 20%, The following year the quote was more
than double the previous year. I was told it was a special offer last year.
Never used them again.
Try the online car clubs for your make/model they usually have insurers that offer members a discount.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
2 full evenings shopping around later...:
£795 with Adrian Flux by not having breakdown cover included. Best of a bad lot so far...0 -
My car insurance has gone up too! and such a lot in one go. So far Saga are coming out the cheapest - apart from Swinton, who are offering - after 90 days a cashback cheque payment of £360!! I have looked on their web site and can see £40 cashback, but that is it. This is on a premium of £687 (or monthly payments with charges £769) this offer ends to me on Thursday. This would bring the premium down to a much more affordable £320, which is in fact less than last year. It just seems like a massive cashback - has anyone heard of this?????0

Who told you about the £360 cashback, was it over the phone or in their branch?0 -
It was over the phone (0800 0739250). I did ask him to email me all the details, but he said no. I have until Thursday to decide, then it runs out - apparently???? Such a good deal, but this is why I am worried???0

I very very much doubt you would get £360 cash back, call centre staff will often promise things to clinch a sale so they can receive their commission and hit their targets. Someone not agreeing to confirm a deal in writing should always ring alarm bells.
A broker earns approximately 9% of your car premium in commission, due to their size Swintons will earn about 14% of the premium in commission. They earn significantly more from the add ons you might buy and can make good money from inflating the interest rate if you pay over instalments.
So assuming you don't pay via instalments and your premium did not include any add ons they would earn around £105 from your premium of £687.
As they say in America, you do the math.0 -
Thanks for all the info....definitely something wrong here. The chap I spoke to isn't in until Friday, so I am supposed to speak to the Manager. I think I will ring the local branch and see what they have to say. It is so strange, as I can't imagine anyone in a large company lying, as it will surely come back to bite them, so to speak, but as you rightly said the maths is all wrong. Three payments is only £210, so even then £360 is way out. Can they blatantly lie like this???0

Swintons do not have a great reputation.
I would suggest caution on a cashback of that size from any insurer0 -
Thank you.....I think I was just being hopeful!! I have to be strong here and just say no, go with Saga and not think about it any more. I only do about 800 miles a year, so probably cheaper to get a cab! it is purely for the convenience that I have the car. Thank you so much for making me see sense!!0
