Regected First Credit Card

Can some one please give me advice, I have applied for a credit card and been regected. I have looked at my credit report and everything is fine on it, and I was recently looking a mortgage and been approved for it, althoght things feel through and we didn't need it.

How can i get rejected for a credit card when i can get accepted for a mortgage?

Any advice on what type of card I should apply for?

A mortgage is secured on property but a credit card isn't.

because if you fail to pay your mortgage, they can take your house

if it's a first CC, try barclaycard, using the pre-application checker

failing that, Aqua, Vanquis or CapitalOne to build your credit rating
  • Jon_boy,

I ended up not taking the mortgage because he house fell through.

I have not missed any pay ments on my bank account and i have had a FA look at my credit rating and he had even said every thing was good.

I have had a few loans in the past that have been completely paid off (with out missing any payments).

I am just unsure why i have been regected for a cc.

Lack of any real recent history probably combined with applying for the wrong card....

    Which card was it?

  • It may be nothing to do with your credit rating, maybe you did not fit their criteria for whatever reason although I am surprised TBH a mortgage at the moment in the current conditions is arguably 1 of the hardest things for anyone to get.

As already asked who was the lender? You may be better approaching your own bank if this is your first ever card.

    Best of luck :)

  • Well i had applied for a bank of ireland credit card last year (tho i have a bank account with for over 10 years) and got rejected and i have just applied for a barclaycard Platinum there today (because of the 0% offer on it) and waiting to hear if i am accepted for it.

How do you get any real recent history?

You won't get a 0% card with no credit history.

Try Barclaycard Initial, Capital One or Vanquis.

Once you have had a sub-prime card for 6-12 months then a mainstream lender might give you a card.
