are you managing your own DMP or using payplan/cccs?

from what you say your OH is in fact paying some of the spending i.e. some of the childcare and shopping....can you estimate how much on average he contributes per month?

at the moment its difficult to see whether or not you are breaking even before you make debt repayments.

how much each are you proposing to pay your creditors?

I have to be honest, your SOA looks pretty tight really - there may be small savings to be made by switching utility companies etc, but your payments are fairly small already. I presume the Sky package is the lowest you can reduce it to?

Could your partner do the self employed work part time, and find a part time job, then he's not giving up his own business totally? At least then he would have a regular monthly income coming in. I know you must feel guilty that he is intending to give it up, but I'm sure from his point of view, he would rather be able to support you and the new baby - and if he finds work in a similar field and keeps his skills up to date, there's no reason he can't go back to it once things are a bit less stretched financially.

Couple of suggestions re the credit cards - Is your credit rating okay? Are you able to apply for another card with a low/0% apr to transfer some of the higher APR cards onto? Some people have also had some limited sucess asking the credit card companies to reduce the interest rate in order to keep their custom (doesn't matter that it might be an empty threat - they don't know that!). It's worth a try, as the worst they can say is no.

Otherwise, try speaking to Payplan or CCCS, I know loads of people on here highly recommend them. Much better than going to one of those awful companies who advertise on TV claiming to be able to write off huge chunks of your debts (but charge you a fortune for the priviledge).

If eBay/Amazon no good for you, how about a car boot sale - go with a couple of friends, so you can split the pitch fee - its actually quite a good laugh, and you can make quite a bit. Baby/childrens things sell quite well and I presume yours will be outgrowing things very quickly at the moment.

  • Can I also just ask one question, does your bf have an expensive or high powered car just the car insurance seems an awful lot can this not be lowered ? If it's interest free which I doubt it is with these places then its costing £674.04 a year which is around the costs of a new driver.

I think you also need to get in touch with your CC compaines and find out the APRs, threaten Barclaycard that you'll move the debt to another card to get that reduced. Would you also not be able to get a new 0% card to replace the one that's running out ? Have you cut up all the cards now ?

He's not a plumber is he? If he is, can he put me a new bathroom in? I'll pay on the day hahaha!! Or if he's a decorator, I need my bedroom wallpapering :).

You say you recieve WTC does this include the childcare element? As I understand from our claim, you can get up to 80%of the costs of the care back if both partners are working.

Yes i have enquired about this, i've apperntly got to find out my OH's UL nuber or something  he doesn't even know what they're talking about !

Give your local tax office a call and ask them to explain what an UL number is or ring the helpline 08453003900 as you could do with anything you are entitled to asap. As you are already receiving a claim I think that you will be able to claim back as far as 3 months because it will be a change of circumstance. I hope this helps.

Hi, I have just been to the tax credits online info and they say that an UTR - unique tax reference is needed for a claim involving self-employed people, and I quote : 'Your UTR is shown at the top or your tax return and your notice to complete a tax return. It is also shown on the statement of account.'
Is this what they are looking for?

It might be worth speaking to one of the companies mentioned (Payplan/CCCS) - they will basically do what you are doing, but I think some lenders tend to take the DMP more seriously if one of these charities are involved, from what I've gathered on here (although I've no experience of this myself sorry).

as you give the figures they look like this:

    income 1002
    spending 1334 excluding debt repayments

debt repayments 600 (my estimate based on CC debts of 18,000 plus the
Direct Line debt which you dont specify)

the critical number missing is how much does OH contribute

If i have understood the figures properly at the moment you can't afford to pay your basic living expenses let along pay a single penny on your debts..presumably you are living on the CCs.

    Can you answer the following
    a. How much is you house worth and what is the mortgage?
    b. best estimate of OH contribution to the bills
    c. redo the debts showing
for each CC the actual debt, the minimum monthly payment and APR
    d. how much is the Direct line loan for?
