    Lol!

I don't believe I ever suggested people should choose not to have children and put an end to the human race :rotfl:

It's not a ridiculous comparison at all - part of life is being around other people, and that often entails 'putting up' with certain things we don't like, whether it be noisy kids, barking dogs, or anything else.

Barking is a natural behaviour in dogs. As a 'responsible pet owner' I can take measures to limit and control the barking, but cannot and will not stop it completely - the same way my neighbours will not stop their children shouting and screaming when playing in the garden nextdoor - I don't think they're irresponsible parents because of that - it's just something I put up with and try to ignore :rotfl:

I don't believe I ever suggested you said that, I just said comparing the noise children make to the noise dogs make is a silly comparison.

    That's a ridiculous question, really.

I don't have children, and that is no different to me asking why your (or anyone else's) children's crying/shouting/screaming should be imposed on me! It's part of life. Dogs bark, just as children make a racket and have paddies.

I can't stand listening to other people's kids, but don't have much of a choice.

Yay! It's not just me then... it is the screeching and shouting that drives me to distraction esp. when I'm so conscious of ensuring my dogs don't bark! I'll probably get shot down for this but unfortunately I think people are all too quick to moan about a dog barking without actually considering how their own family's noise has an impact on their neighbours. When I was younger, we had fun outside but my parents didn't expect the whole neighbourhood to live with it and we played so quietly compared to the kids I hear! Sorry :o

Actually, you are right - it is a silly comparison - children are MUCH worse than dogs :D

It's not a silly comparison if you'd wanted to have a nice quiet afternoon reading in the garden over the summer and were constantly driven back inside because of the noise from the kids next door. :(
  • If everyone chooses to not have children, the human race dies out.

You say that as if it's a bad thing ...

I was in that exact situation when I lived in an urban environment. I had noise trouble ranging from noisy neighbours to noisy dogs.

My point in that it's a silly comparison is the fact it's a choice to have a dog, it's a social necessity to continue to have children.

Equally, I choose to have a very very loud car. I do not allow that car to annoy other people. I also have several dogs and a variety of other animals but again, they don't annoy other people. I'd be devastated if I found that I'd ever impacted on the peace of other people.

Good point! Maybe some sort of license or a parenting test!?

I'd be all for a parenting test, with a pass mark of 100% - no compromise! :D

I feel for you Coverdinbees, i have the same problem. Last week bliss as kids where off school, mostly quiet from the neighbours dog. But this morning its been barking and crying for over 3hrs solid. It was hell in the summer months could not sit outside. My problem is i do not know who's dog it is doing the barking, so cannot go and have a quiet word with them. If no one has told them it is constantly barking they maybe do not know it is doing it, if my dog was doing it i would want to know to correct it.
