Identifying duplicates in Excel

In Excel (2003) is there a way to identify/highlight duplicated records? Either by conditional format or formula.
What I would normally do is sort the column ascending then put in a formula in the adjacent column that says =if(A1=A2,1,0) etc. then look for the 1s. But there must be a better way of checking for duplicates mustn't there?
Thanks for your help

I either do what you do or use =COUNTIF(A: A,A2)>1 and set it to highlight the cell a different colour when its a duplicate. Withouth the space otherwise you get a :A on here2026 Mortgage-Free Wannabes #24 £3554.14/£20000 OP0
