Pet food storage

How do you store your dog food? Particularly those of you who buy the big 12/15kg bags..!

I am looking for a storage container that will hold a reasonable amount of food (perhaps half a bag), which is flat on top (so I can feed dog from it; ie: raised platform) and that looks somewhat decent..! I like the idea of the ones from PetsatHome but, I don't personally like the look of them and I think they would be too high to double up as a feeding platform.

It would be left out on a regular basis (with water bowl on top).

Am I being too fussy? Is there such a thing..? Shall I design one and go on Dragons Den..? :p

Could you possibly link to the one at PetsAtHome you're referring to so I can get a good idea about what you're referring to?

Personally I just store my dog food in a small kitchen cupboard out of sight of the dogs and use a cup of the right volume to pop the food in their bowls.
  • I store my dogs' food in a large metal bin which holds 15kg (they were being given away with Pro Plan pet food a few years ago) and just use a measuring cup to ensure he has the correct amount.

    Hi Tropez,
Here is the one at Pets at Home:

The only one that sort of resembles what I'm looking for is this from Petplanet:

I use the large Stack-n-Store - bought them at a dog show quite a few years ago, but I'm sure if you googled them you would find them. I think mine was the 35 model (holds about 35kg) but they do come in smaller sizes. It would be ideal to put the dogs bowl on top to feed (as long as it is a medium sized breed and not a toy breed :o). HTH :D.

I use a kitchen bin with a flip up lid, takes a 15kg sack with ease.

We use an old kitchen bin , washed out thoroughly first .Its one that you push the lid and it opens .Once the silly Rottie realised he could open it and scoff to his hearts content i had to move it to our walk in pantry cupboard

In a local outdoor Market/ Carboot. Bought a barrel with a screw top that had been used to import chutney (of all things)

It just takes a 15 K bag of dog food. Bought a second to store Bird food.

Big advantage is that they can be stored outside, as they are rodent proof.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

My aunt stores her dog food in a bin like thing that she got free when she bought a brand name dog food.
Although you, as people have suggested could get a plastic screw top bin cheap enough in say wilkinsons or b&q or argos. if notim sure i have sometimes seen the swing top bins in the pound shops, perhaps you could get a bin more suitable in a pound shop or perhaps one of those fair size plastic storage boxes? if you could get one deep enough?
