ebay security RIDICULOUS!

I was locked out of ebay and Paypal for buying a £6.99 CD while I was on holiday in Romania - getting ebay up and running again was an annoyance I could have done without, but Paypal has been even worse and I still can't use it properly after attempting to go through their security processes. They've said their phone PIN number process was a success but I still can't access my account. They ask me to add my bank details to confirm the account is mine, but when I fill in the bank details it says I can't add them because my account has been suspended?!

If that wasn't stupid enough, this morning I've been locked out of ebay again - but completely. I have filled in some security details, but still have to wait over an hour to speak on their 'Live Chat'. I've only attempted to login on my work computer in the UK, which I use for ebay regularly.

ebay has got worse and worse over the years, and if there were alternatives it would have been the final straw ages ago. I understand why they have these security processes but for someone who is security-minded anyway this is even more stupid.

I noticed when I was on holiday that when you pay with something via Paypal, you login to Paypal via ebay, your payment is made, and then you're forwarded back to ebay again while STILL LOGGED IN to Paypal, even if you log out of ebay! With all these processes they have to try and make their websites more secure, how unsecure is that??!

are we to assume you've been "locked out" because they assume your a/cs have been hacked by someone from Romania?....sounds like their security is working well enough ....

problems sometimes arise when you don't follow their instructions to re-activate...always better to speak to someone on the phone, there is an Ebay thread on MSE also check the Ebay Users forums for advice (they're on Ebay but you don't have to login)

So your account was locked because they saw unusual activity from a country the account is not normally run from. You should be thanking them. If they hadn't secured it and it was someone hacking i'm sure you'd slao be complaining about the security.

    Why don't you phone them

Yes, but people travel/holiday - and it was from a seller I've used two or three times before, it was only one transaction and hardly a massive amount of money. They could improve their software.

The fact I've now been locked out for using an 'unfamiliar computer' which I regularly use for ebay and have to wait 1+ hour to speak to someone, on top of what has already happened, is what makes it ridiculous. I did reactivate my ebay account in Romania soon after it had been locked.
