Citroen Xsara wheel wobble under braking

The wifes got an 02 plate Xsara HDi, and since we bought it about 3 months ago, there has been the most annoying wheel wobble under braking. Some times it was so violent, you would have thought the wheels were going to drop off.

Since buying it, the following have been changed:

Front discs and pads
N/S front spring
New front tyres

Now the wobble seems to be at a specific speed, 30-40mph, but is not apparent under acceleration or cruising. I swapped tyres front to back on both sides today, and it doesn't seem to be as bad, but nevertheless is still there.

Has anyone else had this peculiar French problem?
That's my mutt in the picture above.

  • Any play in the bottom arms?.... Track rod ends would be worth a look.
  • Buy it from a dealer, why didn't you take it back ? ( unless you didn't of course)
Nothing to see here, move along.

Only one front spring replaced? Should always be two, what if one has snapped at the top where you cannot see it.
Other than that, various suspension parts may be to blame. Caliper bolts loose? Hubs not cleaned off before fitting discs? Hub nut coming loose, not torqued up correctly? Wheel bearings loose?

    Yes and no.

It came as a direct p/x, and was the right price for what I paid for it.

    ?

Track Control Arm bushes. If its not discs or a warped/imbalanced wheel then its track control arm bushes. Replace the entire bottom arm - don't fanny around just changing the bushes. Works out cheaper and you also get a new balljoint as well :D
