Boiler Replacement - Floorstanding

Options
Hi All,

Can anyone please advise if a floor standing boiler can be replaced with a wall hung boiler in the same place on the floor, or does it have to be hung on wall as my boilers now started to reach its age (close to 40 years old) and will most likely require replacing soon.

The only boiler i can see floor standing are worcester bosch or ideal but i would prefer to have a Vaillant which are only wall hung.

As long as the service man can get at i can see no reason why you cant. You may have to raise the flue though.
  • We just had an ancient floor standing boiler changed for a Potterton HE30 FSB (I think its called).

We looked at the Worcester and decided that it wasn't worth the premium as: (i) not sure their boilers are as good as they used to be; (ii) Worcesters have an aluminium heat exchanger which may be more susceptible to hard water than the Potterton's stainless steel one; and (iii) the Potterton can go behind a cupboard door whereas I'm not sure the Worcester can.

Viessmann do a floor standing boiler, if I remember correctly (we are looking to replace our current boiler with Viessmann, so I was looking on their website)

    Hi

A wall mounted boiler is exactly that.
It needs to be fitted as per the installation instructions which usually result in the flue bend well above a worktop height.
Glowworm do a direct rear flue on one of their boilers, which might work.
AFAIK all the others will be storage combi types.
    Do you want a combi?

Thanks for the reply i cant have a combi as i have 2 bathrooms and an ensuite so need a seperate heat boiler to replace the current one.

Any links to the potterton and viessman, looking at prices floor standing seems to cost more than wall mounted. In regards to the flue can these maybe be bent to below work top level or is there such a thing as a compact boiler?

Viessmann has an integrated cylinder, so would work for 2 bathrooms.

    The link: http://www.viessmann.co.uk/en/products/gas_fired_condensing/vitodens_222-f.html

222-F has cylinder of 100l (130, if you go for 35kW one), 242-F has a bigger cylinder of 170l.

The OH installs Viessmann but would not recommend the 222f for a property with 2 bathrooms and an ensuite...it is also a huge beastie.

System boiler with unvented cylinder would fit the bill if the property has adequate mains water flow/pressure and you can find the space.

Btw...the 242F has an integral DHW solar cylinder so not relevant to the OP's situation.

As always, a RGI, after conducting a site survey and discussing the OP's requirements, would be best placed to advise.
