Dongle security and defender question

Has a dongle got built in security ? and I've ran hijack and can I change any of these things should I delete windows defender from the list and should I disable windows defender real time scan ?

    A dongle has no built in security. You also do not get the protection of NAT which you'd get if you were using a router. Treat it as your computer being directly connected to the internet. Make sure the firewall is enabled and all sharing is disabled such as file and printer sharing. In Vista/Win7, set it as a Public Network - that'll lock everything down.
  • Thanks I have got public network on and no file sharing and firewall etc etc -is there no lock you can set up and lock like when you use a wireless router

    No. The Wifi access key is to stop people using your wireless network, not to stop access to your computer. There is no wifi to access hence no key. The best way to think of a dongle is as an old pre-broadband dialup modem where you make a direct 1:1 connection to the internet via a phone. The dongle is in effect a mobile phone without the screen and keypad gubbins.

    Another question if you don't mind I can't update an important windows update it keeps failing-the details are
    SECURITY UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT.NET
    framework 3.5 sp1, windows vista
    sp2 and windows server
    2008 sp2 x 86 (KB24164700
    any advice on what I should do please.
