Apple laptops - Second hand

I'm looking at getting a new laptop, I really like the look of some of the Apple MacBooks, but can't afford a new one at the moment, and my current laptop has broken completely (won't register that the hard-drive is connected, tried reinstalling Windows 7, and it won't read the disk).
Does anyone here use a Apple MacBook? The only experience of Apple Macs I have are from college, and they where terrible, really old and slow, however some of the new ones we had where brilliant! Lovely to use and looked amazing. (Have to admit this is one of the reasons why I want one lol).
What are the pros and cons of owning a Apple MacBook? Does anyone know any places online, or around the Dorset area to get them second hand? I've checked eBay, but wondered if there is anywhere else.
Thanks!

I've got a Macbook Pro 13.3" Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz/ 2GB RAM / 160GB HDD /aluminium unibody one circa 2009. Second hand mine at 8 months old is worth about £650-£700.
Pros...not having to worry about viruses etc. Easy to use GUI - good for media.
Cons - none if you're used to Linux. Getting used to new interface and way things are named if you're not. You can't run Windows software under Mac OSX without some messing about (virtual PC etc). Not as much free software.0 -
You can get used apples on the apple site, bottom left corner of store has the refurb models there0

Why not check out the apple refurbs? Not as expensive as new, but not quite as cheap as ebay. But you do get a 1 year warranty from apple!

Hi
I have gone over to mac only 2 weeks ago after having windows for years and have found the transition to be very good, there is loads of free software if you know where to look, if you have an old pc that has gone faulty you could set up bootcamp or install paralelles and install windows off your old machine, i bought a 13.3 mack book 2 weeks ago and was so impressed with it i have now purchased a 15.4 macbook pro cant see i will be going back to windows.
i know of a 3 year old macbook and a 2 week old one that are for sale.

I have a Macbook pro, got it direct from Apple using the education discount, look at the Apple main page for terms. If you want to use if for photo storage, music etc quite alot of software is built in. The negative as mentioned is the cost but it will last quite a while.0
