solicitor on the other line

I am in the process of selling my house and every time I phone my solicitor, whoever answers always says "hold on I will put you through" then a few seconds later comes back and says "he is on the other line he will call back"
Every time!
At least he does call back, but then I am stuck in the house waiting for the call.
Do others get that?

Newsflash - he does have more than one client, he does not sit there waiting for your call. Maybe he is not always on the phone when you call, but he could be in the middle of numerous other tasks that should not be interrupted. I really don't see your problem?Gone ... or have I?0 -
I really don't see your problem?
I don't have a problem I just wondered if every solicitor was on the other line whenever they got a phone call.0 -
At least he's busy!
Might be an idea to buy a mobile then you won't be stuck in waiting for his return calls. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

His secretary needs a lesson in how to handle client contacts. I have been a legal secretary for 10+ years and I find out each day who my lawyers don't want to talk to and who they don't mind being put through. I never assume anything though - and if someone rings I'll say "I'll see if I can get them for you" - even if I know they're waiting for the call. They may be off getting a drink, or in the loo, or half way through a banana or something! It's never "I'll put you through" mainly because then if they don't want to speak to the person calling, it's ME who looks like an idiot.
But just think - you're not his only client, lawyers are (generally) hideously busy people. Have you thought about emailing him? That way, he can check whether it's urgent or not, and deal appropriately...We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

I think you are being a bit melodramatic. I'm sure it wouldn't be gross misconduct at all.
Why do you keep on needing to speak to your solicitor anyway?0 -
