I bought in January this year
a 12 month matured champagne Christmas pud on the cheap, best before date March 2010.
Mum says it should be ok for this christms.
This is my attempt at being frugal is buying when in the sales, but i never got around to eating it before March, is it ok for this Christmas?
It's just me and my mum that will eat it, but not if i will poison us.

At the end of the day it is up to you but I would eat it and I have eaten xmas pud that is well past its date before. They are usually full of alcohol which should act as a preservative.
Try making some - very easy to do and quite cheap too! I make mine in September every other year and make enough to do two years and just feed them every now and then through the year... I got a shock when I saw how much they cost in the supermarkets:eek:0 -
I won't make any this year as i have this pud.
Normally it would only be me that would eat it, so it seems a bit of a waste to make something that i only would eat, But my parents are coming up from France to spend the Christmas period with me
And my mum is making the Christmas cake.0 -
Yes should be fine. I'm going to be eating one this year (with family!!!) that I've had for the last two years! If we all end up with tummy bugs at least we'll have lost the Christmas excess!!!!!!!!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Agree with everyone else, they tend to improve with age, in my opinion. I do keep mine in a cool place (not the fridge, though)0

My view is..if the pudding shows no signs of mould..eat it!
Felines are my favourite

I agree about them maturing with age.
A couple of years ago I made two in October from a Gordon Ramsay recipe. I was very disappointed with the flavours when we ate the first at Christmas that year but I kept the other and we had it at the following Christmas and it was completely different - really delicious.
Unfortunately, I've lost the original recipe and the one that he now seems to be plugging is different.0 -

I have a shop brought one lurking in the back of my cupboard, I bring it out every year lol! Its been going some years now...haha but I am the only one that likes it so it seems silly to cook it up just for me, I may go wild this year and instead of using it for decoration I may eat itOct GC: €260...:cool:0

I have just found a Mr T's finest Christmas pudding on the top of my cupboard, I bought it mainly for the bowl that it came in - nice ceramic one. It was reduced to a third of the price i think lol But to my original point it went out of date in Feb this year do you think it is still edible and safe to eat?
Thanks for any answers.0 -
Yes - I'd think that it will be perfectly fine to eat... maybe a little dry though. I seem to think that Nigella has a recipe perfect for situations such as these... I seem to remember that she made small chocolately puddings with them.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
