The DVD Writer is slow at 8 speed most DVD writers are now 16 speed.
Make sure the Hard drive is a SATA this will give a good indication that the motherboard is a newish one.

Sound is an onboard chip as well as the network 10/100. Do you really need a 56k modem?

AMD Processors offer the same speed for half the money. its the reason I have not built a pentium based computer for over 8 years.

Thx Nobby_Nomates, so you say that a Amd is as fast as a p4, because i've been made to believe that it's slower.
what i looking for is :-
processor p4 3.0 ghz+ 0r equivalent
512 ddr ram.
128+graphics (not shared)
120 + hard drive
8x dvd r/rw
does'nt matter about kb mouse or monitor because all i'm really looking for is the base unit

HI Purdy_1,

AMD 64 will run circles around any comparable P4 (HT inc HT) apart from their P4 Extreme Edition ( aka Extremely expensive). An AThlon XP will be as good or better than a P4 in everthing apart from video compression.
