Barclaycard

Hi
This is only my second post so be gentle please because I'm a bit of newb
I've had my barclaycard for about 20 years...only realised that i was paying the ppi in May this year even though I've been a housewive for the last 6 years (in future will look at all paperwork carefully!). Rang to cancel it there and then..had no end of trouble cancelling it as whoever I spoke to was adamant that I "needed" it!
I can't remember anything from when I originally got the card but would have been by post as the wonderful internet wasn't around but I presume I've been paying for this all the time and never realised.
My question is...
Can I claim?
I have no original paperwork, but I have bills for the last 10 years and I've been paying this on all of them (totted up Feb, March and April and I paid nearly £100 extra on those 3 months alone)
Hoping someone can help as I'm a bit bogged down by financial stuff.
Thanks in advance
Jackie

Hi, you say you was a housewife for the last 6 years and the PPI was added before that, were you working and eligible to make a claim then before? Also if the sale was made by post did you tick the box for the PPI to be added? If you did you are usually ticking that you have read the terms and conditions of the PPI and also it usually gives you your cancellation rights too. If however it was added without your knowledge at the time (by Barclays and they would usually have records to prove either way usually) then you could claim a missale but otherwise it would be hard to prove as it would classed as a non advised sale.0

Can I claim?
Claim: If the you have a claimable event and the policy does cover housewifes (some income protections do on the assumption of around £15,000 a year) then you can claim on the policy.
Complaint: You can complain if you are not eligible for cover. However, it is highly unlikely they will go back 20 years. Plus, you cannot complain about the sale as its before regulation. You best hope is really to ask them to refund the last 6 years on the assumption they do not cover housewifes. If they do cover housewifes then you are reliant on their goodwill.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Many thanks for taking the time to answer.
I was working more or less since the time of applying for the barclaycard. Met my present husband 8 years ago and became a housewife.
At the moment, I'm kicking myself as I really didn't know what the insurance covered - note to self to read the small print in future - have been long term sick and unemployed during the time I've had the card! All that time paying and I never checked.
I've written the standard letter to Barclaycard asking for the terms and conditions this afternoon and will go from there, I think.
They can either say yes or no can't they?0 -
I've not heard back from Barclaycard yet with my T&C's, can anyone advise me what I need to do next please?
I know that they've received my letter but my £1 cheque has not been cashed. They signed for my letter on 5.11.2010.
Have I given them enough time? Are they "slow" at replying?
Thanks for any welcome advice.0 -
Hi there
I would contact them about this, give them a ring or even call into your branch in case anything is gone amiss.
I take it you actually mean the Credit Agreement?
Did you actually request this as a "Credit Agreement" in the letter? if not then re-write, make them aware they have already cashed the payment but you've not received the agreement which you expected to receive by 12 days of your request.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

I'm back again, after receiving a couple of letters from Barclaycard, latest one on Saturday with a copy of Barclaycard Terms and Conditions along with another letter with a "reconstituted" copy of my credit agreement! No idea what to do next so all suggestions would be gratefully received please.
Seeing as they've only sent a "reconstituted" copy, they obviously don't have the original anymore, but it does state "unemployment, accident, sickness and death" as being covered by PPI. Could I still claim as it being mis-sold as I have been a housewife for the last 6 or so years, not technically unemployed?
I am a real numpty at all things financial but trying really hard not to be so please bear with me.
Where do I go from here? Who do I need to contact or do I need to send off a SAR to them next?
Thanks for reading and any thoughts you may have.

Hi there Jackie
May I ask if the loan was joint or in your name only?
If you were the 2nd account holder, the policy only would have likely protected the first account named, so it would not have protected you if this is the case.
But when you say you were not technically unemployed, do you mean you were employed but part time perhaps? where the ppi would be worthless to you were working a certain amount of hours a week only.
If you want to request a Subject Access Request (SAR), this is optional, but maybe useful where details of the ppi would or should be enclosed.
There is a template letter on the link below, tweak to your requirement, and enclose £10 cheque or postal order, they have 40 calendar days to comply.
Remember to include your account number.

To make a reclaim, complete the reclaiming questionnaire as on the link below as stage one of reclaiming, this replaced the template letter on this site, they have 8 weeks to give a decision, but may ask for more time.
Remember to keep copies of all you send and receive in case you need to refer to this again at some point.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#reclaim
You pursue the ones who set up the policy in the first place, and send the completed questionnaire to their head office or complaints dept if they have one.
Hope this helps. Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"

A mis-sale would only arise based on your circumstances at the time of the sale, which sounds like you were probably employed. Barclaycard would not be at fault if you stopped working.
you could request a subject acccess report, but barclaycard only have to keep records for 6 years so they may not have anything.0 -
Thanks for your reply Di.
This wasn't a loan, it was a barclaycard. It was in my name only.
I have not been working at all for the last 6 years so I'm unsure as to whether I can claim anything back.
Do you think it would be worth me requesting a SAR or should I now go straight to the questionnaire?
Thanks again

Thanks roonaldo for your reply.
I'm just debating whether I should just give it up as a lost cause, seems like too long ago and not sure I'd achieve anything!
